Tournament review

The Catalan Chess Federation hosted a Four Nation competition between Scotland, Catalonia, the Basque Country and Argentina in Barcelona, December 15 -17. Scotland defeated the Basques in the final round to deprive them of first place. Edward Dearing, who still needs to hit 2400 to be confirmed as an IM, scored Scotland's only victory in an exciting final round game.

Interesting games

Ever saw a game like this?
Both white horses have been lurking in the very corner of the board all game long.
Rowson, Jonathan (SCO) - Illescas Córdoba, Miguel (CAT) 0 - 1

One has to have nerves of steel not to panic while his King is being X-rayed by mass of major pieces.
Shaw, John (SCO) - Gómez Esteban, Juan Mario (EUS) ½ - ½

Not very sophisticated try, but still interesting piece of tactics.
Narciso Dublan, Marc (CAT) - Shaw, John (SCO) 1 - 0

A rarely seen Central Game.
Cámpora, Daniel Hugo (ARG) - Fernández García, José Luís (EUS) 0 - 1
