Tournament review

The system of play was mirrored from that from 1972, yet the consolation group was to be played, of which top two teams would join the eight from the championship final to form newly created ten team Primera División, since F.E.D.A. decided to install level league system starting from 1974. Teams ranked 3rd-4th in the consolation group (11th-12th overall) would get automatic qualification to Segunda División (second level). The Caja Insular de Ahorros de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria took surprise win at 20 points, with Calvo scoring impressive 7 out of 9 on board #1, while champions Schweppes came second, as their top board Torán scored mere 3/7. Español easily clinched their third consecutive bronze. Barcelona and Barcinona clinched top two spots in the final B.
