Tournament review

Incumbent cupholders Español fielded virtually the same squad as in 1966 yet they only managed to came in 5th. CA Barcelona took the win, third one in the history. Albareda was back on top board. With last round to go Real Madrid were in clear lead at 28½, then Chardenet at 27½ and Barcelona at 27. The latter easily steamrolled Alcoy 4-0 and saw Chardenet sharing points vs defending champions Español at 2 each. This could hardly be a surprise, yet Real only manager 2-2 vs Ruy López and lost the lead. The home side Granada came in 11th.
