The premier edition of women's Mitropa cup took place in the beautiful scenery of the D'Aoste Valley in northwestern corner of Italy. The event drew 10 central European teams of two up to three players each, including three experienced WGMs with Barbara Hund at top board for Switzerland and some talented youngsters like Selina Müller (Elo 2305). Switzerland had highest Elo (2295) but played poorly to finish down in 7th place. The trophy was taken by Slovenia, who won five matches and drew three, while France "A", possible contenders, lost 2-0 to France "B" in the opening round which proved irreparable. Both teams finished level at 13 match points with Slovenia taking top honour on game points count. Germany took third place. Best individual results were achieved by Helm of Germany and Kapš of Slovenia. |
