Tournament review

Valiant Ukraine team won in style wiping out most dangerous opposition; it is only in the last round when they conceded the match, having already been mathematically unreachable. Romania deservedly took silver while Yugoslavia came third. Germany, silver medal winners from 2000, lost 4-0 to Ukraine in the opening round and did not manage to recover fully; they finished in sixth position. Czech Republic were led by 15-year old prodigy David Navara but only came ninth, with the silver individual medal for their leader as the only consolation. Best individual result was obtained by Efimenko of Ukraine 6½/7, then Lupulescu (Romania) and Areschenko (Ukraine) - 6/7.
