The premier Women's Club Cup final in Smederevska Palanka was preceded by eight preliminary groups. As results are not available, it is known that Grandmaster School Kyiv qualified in Nova Goriva ahead of Rodewischer Schachmiezen (1-3 vs Kyiv, 3-1 vs home site) and ŠK Nova Gorica. As there were not enough teams it was commented, that there should be less preliminary groups. As eight strong teams stepped in the games were fought hard. With no surprises in the quarterfinals the semifinal match between Merani (GEO) and Empils (RUS) was only decided in the rapid play-off. The minnow team Plungės (LTU) beat the home side to the upset of the home crowd. The final match between Merani and Agrouniverzal was nothing of a battle. With 12 brisk draws the Cup went to both teams since there was no drawing of lots or any sudden death knock-out. |
