Tournament review

Few championships in the history were as close as this one. It was a two horse race from the very beginning, yet, Stilon gained resonable advantage (as mich as 6½ points after four rounds) and it seemed the game is over. Suddenly the leaders found themselves out of breath. They lost 4-2 to Polonia on day 7th. Yet, on penultumate day they beat Maraton 5-1 to see Polonia struggle vs BBTS 3½-2½ so Stilon were in clear three point lead. On the last day they lost badly to BBTS (surprise!) and Polonia had to score a thumping 6-0 vs Płock to seal their win. As it happened, they were leading 5-0 with the last one to go, but Kujawski failed to beat Duch (see games archive) and Stilon were winners!

The championship was organized by Mr. Tołkacz, Stilon's chair. Prize fund was modest: winners received 6 million zlotys (then $300).
