The Pan-American University Chess Championship (Torneo Panamericano Universitario de Ajedrez in Spanish) is a completely different event than Intercollegiate Championship. It has been registered as official FIDE event and was launched only in 2006, being scheduled as an annual event open to players who have not reached the age of 27 by 1st January of the year of the event. It is open for university team from all over the Americas; the premier edition saw exclusively teams from Latin America.
