Tournament review

The tournament was organized by the Central Military Community Center (Dom Wojska Polskiego) and the Military Chess Club Legion to celebrate 20th anniversary of the Polish People's Military. Five teams took part, four of them representing state Armies and one being the host club team.

Only East Germany fielded a team of players on active duty. Other teams consisted of military clubs members and civil Army workers. The Soviet Army team was exceptionally strong: GM Geller, GM Vasiukov, IM Furman, Gufeld, Bebchuk, Col Golovko. Polish Army was led by IM Plater. The Soviets won easily edging Legin Warsaw by 6½ point.

This successful event lied at the basis of the annual Allied Armies Championship started on the next year.
