Armenia has been recent times one of most successful teams in the world yet the league's level is far from top European competitions. There were just six editions played so far with limited number of teams. Armenia's top player, Levon Aronian, has never played.

Even though the national league took off only in 2005, Armenian teams have been present at the annual European Club Cup since 1993. In 1995 the "Yerevan" club won gold. MIKA Yerevan, the 2008 champions took silver medals in respective European competition.
