2nd GMA World Cup 1991/1993 :: final results

The second GMA World Cup had two-stage preliminaries:
1° Three World Opens, where top 8 from each one (Belgrade JAT 1988, Moscow 1989, Palma de Mallorca 1989) were promoted to the qualification final Moscow 1990.
World Cup qualification final Moscow 1990. Eligible were 24 players from preliminaries (8*3), 19 players who qualified directly (ranked 7th-25th in the previous World Cup) as well as some players to receive wildcards.

Top 12 from Moscow, following the no more than 8 players from one country rule, joined top six from previous World Cup and six players qualified by Elo rating lists. Total of 24 players.

There were six, then five World Cup round robin tournament scheduled, but the cycle was skipped forever right after the premier event held in Reykjavik in 1991. The reason was, of course, lack of adequate funding. GMA ceased to exist soon thereafter. The World Cup was restored only in 2000 under the auspices of FIDE.
