We promised to be fast and here we are. That wasn't easy but finally we added coverage of all of the Olympiads held in 80's, starting from Lucerne, 1982, through maze of complicated political issues hanging over Dubai Olympiad, until 1988 Thessaloniki event. Watch the growing power of the K's duo, England's stiff chase and US, taking one bronze after another. Follow the twilight of Yugoslavia and Hungary - permanent medal winners in 60's and 70's. And - of course - you are as usual kindly asked for support. We are so happy to read from you every day!

Please note that as for today we cannot offer you Manila 1992 coverage, and for Moscow 1994 we may provide only partial data. We urge you to get in touch with us once you can support. Please follow the e-mail envelope of the left.

Ian Wilkinson of Jamaica releases his new book
Posted by Webmaster on 14 October 2004
The cover of the bookAfter two years of hard work, hundreds of e-mail, countless trips to the publishers and a few hurricanes, "Magnificence in Bled: The 35th Chess Olympiad" will be unfurled at the 36th Olympiad in Mallorca, Spain. There will be 330 games in this handsome book with over 300 diagrams and analysis by leading Grandmasters such as Michael Adams, Etienne Bacrot and Peter Svidler. In addition, Zambian star Amon Simutowe provided analysis on his key games. What is interesting about this analysis is that these star players did the analysis especially for the project and were gracious in their replies (...) With Wilkinson's entertaining style of prose and his certain passion for the sport of chess, he will certainly add a much-needed boost to the beleaguered chess world. This book will represent the coming of chess through the ages and go where no other books have gone before. It stands as a symbol of chess greatness, national pride and competitive spirit and will perhaps allow us to appreciate the activity that has, in large part, served as a life-enriching discourse.

Wilkinson, Ian. Magnificence in Bled: The 35th Chess Olympiad (softbound); 412 pages, 330 games, 312 diagrams, 114 photographs (on 20 pages); foreword by Dr. Daaim Shabazz.

Buenos Aires 1978 and La Valletta 1980 coverage added!
Posted by Webmaster on 10 October 2004
Buenos Aires 1978La Valletta 1980Things should go quickly now. Less than a week ago we added full coverage of the Haifa Olympiad and here we go with two more: the Buenos Aires event, greatly supported by Carlos E. A. Drake, and the Malta Olympiad, by courtesy of Geoffrey D. Borg. Especially the latter offers many interesting details that never before came out to the public. To our knowledge no book in English has ever been published on these events making them kind of Olympic black holes. But no more since today! Unfortunately the 1980 bulletin directors followed infamous way adopted at 1974 Olympiad in Nice and almost 1,000 game notations are missing. As usual we count on your support! The all-time statistics and player data have also been updated.
