I was born in 1977 in Warsaw, Poland, where I have lived until now. In 2001 I have graduated in economics from The University of Warsaw. I have been working on my Ph.D. since then. My doctoral thesis deals with inflationary expectations and psychology of inflation. I am full time employed as mayor of Warsaw-Srodmiescie borough (central district). I'm right-handed conservative, a free marketeer.

About 15 years ago I used to be active chess player and I reached B-class level (1800 ELO approx.). Although I'm not active player anymore I enjoy playing online chess (I mostly use Playchess server, you can find me there nicknamed, yes you've guessed, OlimpBase) and in 2003 I was privileged to face legendary Karpov in a simul.

I am married to Aleksandra nee Szymczak (no relation to Polish IM Z.Szymczak). We have two little daughters: Teresa Maria (b. Dec 24th, 2005) and Klara Stefania (b. Feb 26th, 2008). See our faimly blog: http://www.bartelski.pl.
