Tournament review

With just eight sides on the pitch the 2008 Euro U18 championship was second smallest ever. While WIM Vojinović of Montenegro was highest rated player at 2217 the youngest participant was 12-year old Filiz Osmanodja representing Germany. Elo coefficient ranked the teams as follows: Hungary, Romania, Poland.

The top seeds roared through the halfway mark in the constant pace. Romania were at lead after day three with 5 points ahead of Poland 4½ and Hungary 4. Poland denied Hungary 2-0 on day four to move to the nose while Romania tied with surprise Montenegro. The Hungarians recovered efficiently beating Romania on the next day to pave Poland's way to reliable 1.5 point lead. In penultimate round Poland drew Romania and Montenegro beat Germany moving to second position. Poland's last round no-effort 2-0 vs tournament minnows Slovenia clinched a deal. Montenegro took silver and Hungary came in third seeing Romania dropping down the table with 0-2 against Croatia.

WIM Vojinović of Montenegro top first board with 6½/7 ahead of WFM Kulon (Poland) 6/7. The Pole Gościniak was best at second board.
