There were just nine teams in Sankt Petersburg, and much of these who were eligible to participate did not arrive. Favourites were: Sankt Petersburg, Tomsk and newly emerged team Khimik Belorechensk, based on players from Univerisity Maykop. Especially Khimik and Tomsk were running shoulder to shoulder. Khimik eeked out more points from weaker opposition and comfortably took gold; they needed only a draw vs Smolensk in the last round and they scored six brisk draws of course, overall of 53 moves! Its leader Alexei Dreev scored absoulutely best result at board #1 - 4½/6. |
