Tournament review

Team PolandOnly five nations and nine teams took part in the girl's section. Brazil fielded five teams but the number of competing teams stayed odd - thus one team had a bye on each day. Why the home nation fielded five not four or six teams to make the number of participating teams even, is a mystery. Of course Poland were the only possible winner having the only two rated players at their disposal. The rest of girls were South American no-names. Poland won in style dropping a single fraction on the last day. Brazil "A" took second place scoring 8/10 (only losing 2-0 to Poland in round three). Bolivia were third.

Since Venezuela's top board did not arrive the team comprised of one person. There used to be cases in the history when all team members but one came late but it never happened before, that one and only player composed a team from the beginning to the very end. Another reason for the Junior World Championship to be mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records.
