AUS | Australia | 2378 | 8 : 0 | 2484 | Soviet Union | URS
The match was adjudicated and the USSR lead by 4½ to ½ with three games unfinished. The USSR claimed a 6-2 win on the positions but Australia appealed to the ICCF, listing the irregularities: (i) the Soviets who had White pieces had used more time than the rules allowed (because the team captain allowed them to do so!), (ii) they took illegal one hour break to have dinner (it was already midnight in Australia), (iii) they illegally split the player's order (which, but violating the rules, made Australian preparation useless). After two months the ICCF announced that Australia had been declared an 8-0 victor due to multiple rule infringements by the USSR.
