Tournament review

Financial constrains with economic transformation in the background forced Polish chess authorities to cancel traditional league system and replace it with the mixed system - six round Swiss, then sophisticated play-off system. All 36 teams from 1989 first and second league were eligible to participate. BBTS won the final match v Piast Słupsk to take their sole Polish championship.
