Tournament review

The 12th CACAC championship was held in El Salvador. It drew 10 teams from 9 countries, as the hosts fielded the extra youth team (Los prospectos). Cuba send a strong team of five rated players (incl. 2 IMs) and took convincing win. They won all eight matches scoring victory in 23 games and drawing 9 (no game loss!). Silver went to Mexico and the host team snatched bronze (their first ever podium position in any international event) wiping out Netherlands Antilles 4-0 in the last round. Venezuela, runners-up from previous year showed disappointing play to finish in 5th.

Board medals were won by three Cubans and Dávila of Nicaragua who surprised everyone with excellent 7½/8 display at top board.
