Tournament review

The 1957 edition of Clare Benedict trophy was a two-horse race again. West German team were on their road to European Team Championship finals while the Netherlands were hoping for sweet revenge for 1956 loss.

As both teams took off with clear 4-0 the Dutch dropped 2 points on day two vs Austria, while Germany beat France 3½-½. The Netherlands wiped out Italy 4-0 on the next day to close the gap down to a half of a point. Germany's board #4 Pfeiffer beat Roessel of Holland to score the only full point in the match of the leaders and seal West Germany's minimal win. The Germans beat Austria 3-1 on the last day to take gold medals ahead of the Netherlands.

Best individual results were obtained by Euwe and Unzicker - 4½/5.
