Tournament review

This interesting event is quite forgotten those days to such an extent that chess historian do not count it as official European Cup event. The idea was abandoned after one tournament and was raised again in 1975. There were quite a lot of good players playing in Belgrade, although teams from USRR, Hungary and Czechoslovakia did not arrive probably partly due to cantidate tournament finished just a few weeks earlier in Amsterdam. Partizan had best squad although Gligorić and Matanović were missing.

The Yugoslav team won in style, as expected winning seven matches and drawing one. East German team took second position losing only to Polish team. Austrian team Hietzing took third place defeating Düsseldorf SG on penultimate day. The West German team lost chances for better overall position conceding 3 points vs relatively weak Swiss team.
