Tournament review

The 1948 workers' Olympiad drew five national teams, including four communist countries and Switzerland. Among participating players were people soon to become respected GMs: Luděk Pachman (CSR), Milan Vidmar jr (YUG) or László Szabó (HUN). Hungary took a win by a wide three point margin beating Yugoslavia 2½-1½ on penultimate day in a decisive encounter. Poland came third rather unexpectedly as they defeated Czechoslovakia 2½-1½ on the last day.
