Tournament review

The Soviet Union was established in 1922 but only in 1948 the premier all-union team Championship (первое командное первенство СССР по шахматам) took place. All 16 Soviet Republics took part joined by the cities of Leningrad and Moscow, making total of 18 participants. As much as 4 of 7 final spots were assigned without qualification (as future proved - that was good idea since all winners from preliminaries were nowhere close in the final table to the seeded top four). The Moscow city team led by post-Hungarian GM Lilienthal and post-Czechoslovak GM Flohr took easy win with six clear picks (no worse score than 6-4).
