The 4th championship took place in Łódź, the true capital of post-was chess in Poland. All of top players participated (plase note there were no more World-class Jewish players in Poland) in a six board round-robin. The organizing body took all their efforts to greet the players with warm hospitality, not an easy task in the times of struggling post-War economy. As it happened, the home side took easy win picking 8 match wins and Pomorze took surprise second. Their leader Szapiel (1921-1954) gave superb performance at top board (7 out of 9). Kraków came in disappointing third. Warsaw were humiliated losing 6-0 to Łódź and 5½-½ to Katowice. |
